My daily role as hvac and plumbing design engineer does not give me as much clout as I think I should have. Some of it is my fault. I need to assert myself.
It is time that architects and engineers work more closely as a team. The architect needs to consult the hvac and lighting engineer from the very first day of design for conceptual design. I think cross discipline activity is key. It does not happen enough. Well, now we have benchmarks, such as LEED certification, and that will make it interesting.
